14th January 2011 – Tavira

14 01 2011

We were up and about early to get our still damp washing on the lines as soon as possible and when that was done we had a wander into the main town, the weather wasn’t as nice as it had been for the last few days but it was still warm enough to be out in shorts and a t-shirt. The town of Tavira is nice, a modern square in the centre of town is surrounded by lots of narrow streets with some really nice old houses, typical for Portugal many of them were in dire need of a re-plastering and a lick of paint but that’s part of the charm of the country for me. We got tempted into a restaurant who were advertising the daily menu for €6 which was either fried rabbit or a monkfish rice dish, the rabbit did it for us so we sat down and then saw that for €9.50 we could get a full meal of bread, soup of the day, special of the day, a glass of wine and a coffee so we went for that. We were soon joined by another British couple who sat down for a beer, we got chatting and continued throughout the meal, we ended up ordering another glass of wine each and even had a brandy with our coffees which finished off a very good meal indeed, just under €30 for the lot, bargain.

A steady walk back to the campsite then followed and once the washing was got back in we settled down for the evening.
