13th March 2010 Praia de Mira to Figueira da Foz

13 03 2010

Lorna was up at 8.30am this morning and walking Jack on the beach which was busy with local fishermen. I rose slightly later at about 9am and joined her for a wander around the area where we were parked. After an egg sandwich and filling up from a tap we were off again toward Figueira da Foz, driving through a little town which had a market selling live rabbits and chickens. We took a small detour to have a look at the lake at Castanheiro where we couldn’t park but I did spot a rather nice door, I have a thing for doors and windows and this satisfied my love for them completely, so colourful and so decaying, just beautiful.

Door and Window - Castanheiro

We found the parking at Figueira da Foz easily with the co-oridintes given to us by Frank and Yvonne at Luarca (N40•08.51′ W08•52.06′) and there were about 30 other motorhomes there. It was hot, the first time I had really felt the heat of the sun on my face, it reminded me of my time spent in Portugal playing golf.

We had a wander around town looking for a supermarket but it was lunch time and they had all closed so we dropped Jack off back at the motorhome and went for some lunch at a cafe close to the parking. I had pork and prawns and Lorna had turbot and it was beautiful. Meal for two with coffee and wine for just over €20, what a bargain!

The remainder of the day we sat outside soaking up the sun with Jack lying on the blanket, just chilling out. We did have a quick chat with another couple from the UK who had been there for 5 months! Cheap living indeed.

We then spent a very pleasant evening playing board games with a German couple, only one of whom could speak English, until finally we retired to bed quite early in the night for a well deserved sleep,
