16th January 2010 Oradour sur Glane to Hautefort

16 01 2010

We left Oradour sur Glane at about mid-day and made the shortish journey to Hautefort, a hillside village with a massive Chateau.

Hautefort Chateau

As soon as we parked up, next to the recycling bins as many of these aires seem to be, the heavens opened and it poured down, relentlessly, scuppering plans to go on a long walk with Jack. We ate a rochefort and advacado salad and listened to the rain pelting off the motorhome roof. It did clear a little later on so I took Jack out to investigate the town and Chateau a little closer. The town was small and dominated by the Chateau overlooking it, it had some lovely narrow streets with some beautiful little houses. Will take Lorna up there tomorrow.

I got back to base a short time afterwards, just as the light started to fall and the Chateau was illuminated, shame our windows are all steamed up. Later on in the evening we had an experiment with our layout in the motorhome, removing the small circular table we had been using and putting up the fixed table across the middle of the bench seat. Seems to work reasonably well but now I need to find somewhere to store the small circular one.

Rochefort and avocado salad, eh? You’re not stinting yourselves, are you?

The account of your journey is fascinating and I’m so glad you’ve got your laptop up and working again, because the photos are splendid. I look forward to your adventures in Spain.
